Cause of heart disease in women

Is the cause of heart disease in women different from that of women? Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women throughout the world. However, the cause of heart disease could be different for women than men.

When it comes to heart attack, most people think that its men’s disease. Few people seem to consider it is a woman’s disease.

Death in women due to the cause of heart disease in women is more than any other disease like cancer. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death of women over the age of 25. It kills nearly twice as many women in the united states as all types of cancer, including breast cancer. It is also a leading cause of disability among women.

Heart disease and difference between men and women

imagesThe major difference lies in age. Generally it has been observed that men have a greater risk for coronary artery disease and heart attacks earlier in life than women.

Women’s risk for heart disease increases after menopause.

Cause

The most common cause of heart disease in women is the narrowing or blockage of coronary arteries, the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart itself. This is called as coronary artery disease and happens slowly over time. It’s the major reason people have heart attack. Two-thirds of women who have a heart attack fail to make a full recovery.

The older a woman gets, the more likely she is to get disease. But women of all ages should be concerned about heart disease.

Symptoms of heart disease differ in women

Women have slightly different warning signs which they tend to ignore for weeks, months, and even years before having a heart attack. Some doctors still do not recognize the warning signs reported by female patients.

  •  The classic heart attack signs experienced by men are: tightness in the chest, arm pain and shortness of breath.
  • Women’s symptoms can resemble those of men. However, a woman will complain of other symptoms, such as nausea, fatigue, indigestion, anxiety, and dizziness.

 What should be done?

Take preventive actions as soon as you recognize that you have the symptoms of heart disease. Contact your doctor and seek his advice.

Why the problems arise?

Atherosclerosis or blockage of the arteries has caused the heart problem. Clean arteries have been blocked by an arterial plaque, thus narrowing the arteries. Narrowing of the arteries increases blood pressure and increases load on the heart as it has to pump more to more blood.

All this has happened due to deficiency of some of the nutrients that our tissues need. The rule is “if the tissues get all the nutrients they need and in adequate amount” the arteries will remain clean.

A healthy heart needs sufficient oxygen and all the nutrients that our cells require and the nutrients should be available in adequate amounts. This way the arteries remain clean and the heart pumps blood to each and every tissue in the body.
Any deficiency of the nutrients leads to obstruction of blood flow caused due to atherosclerosis.

The key to optimal health is providing all the nutrients to the body in adequate amount, exercise and eating an alkaline diet menu plan, which maintains the body pH slightly on the alkaline side.
