Food on wheels

It’s nice to see so many people spending a lot of time outdoors this weekend. It’s been truly a gorgeous couple of days.

On Sunday, I was all giddy over Parked: Food Truck Fest at Governor’s Island. Some of the best food trucks in NYC got together in one place to feed hundreds of people who descended on the beautiful island. Of course, I was one of them.

The short (and free!) ferry ride over to the island is bomb:

The lines to get the food? Not as much bomb…

But nothing that can’t be cured with a dark beer.

And sips of a light beer, too :)

We inched closer…

And closer…

And then, it was our turn! We were finally right in front of the Rickshaw Dumplings truck.

I got the pork & Chinese chive dumplings with the soy sesame dipping sauce. So worth the wait!

Strategically, we had another group waiting in line at the Cinnamon Snail.

I asked them to get me the Maple mustard tempeh sandwich on grilled spelt bread with roasted garlic aioli, kale, tomato, and onions.

This was so delicious but also, extremely filling. I had no room for lobster rolls or tacos or any other food truck things…however, I didn’t have the patience to wait in line either, so it all worked out :)

Then we went to wonder the rest of the island:

Plant bed…literally!

Art installations in some of the old houses that are now galleries:

Then, we hopped back on the ferry and returned to the City.

What a perfect day! Today, I went to the gym with my dad and am now working on a long article about linear accelerators (radiation therapy delivery systems). Just as fun as it sounds :)

What was the highlight of your weekend?

Satisfying my foodie sensibilities on a gorgeous island was definitely awesome.

Ooh, I’d wait for dumplings from a truck! Though…maybe not that long since I can make a pretty good version myself.

The highlight of my weekend? Um…not being in class.

I thought I saw you in line for the dumplings. I too was in that long line. I got the chicken dumplings and I just thought they were okay. I wish I had walked over.

Oh no! I wished you had walked over too! Looks like a lot of bloggers were at Governors Island on Sunday. Of course I was eating while everyone else was running :)

Sorry you didn’t like the chicken dumplings. For some reason, I always go for the pork!
