This Saturday, my mom took three girls out to lunch. Girls? No, more like young women, two of whom just moved to one of the most overwhelming and incredible cities in the world.
We met in the city and took a long walk down Park Avenue, courtesy of Summer Streets.

We wondered enough to reach the Barrel, a European tapas place in the East Village, for brunch.
A complimentary drink was included with our meals. I went for a refreshing, strawberry-filled glass of sangria.

After we put in our order, we noticed food arriving to every other table but ours. A few minutes later, the waitress came up and said something went wrong with the ordering system. She offered us a round of free drinks to make up for it.
Sangria # 2! My mom approves

When the food finally arrived, I got a cup of butternut squash soup. Mmmmm.

I ordered the vegetable galette: buckwheat crepe with tomato paste, assorted grilled vegetables, arugula & goat cheese:

This was really delicious! It was a great combo of fresh & grilled veggies and goat cheese. It was worth the wait!
My mom got the waffle with berries and we all had a small piece. It was fresh, warm and chewy and just perfect.

I loved this place and will definitely go back. The extra drink didn’t hurt either

Free sangria? I’ll take it! The food looks so bright and colorful too! I love fresh looking food, it really enhances the dining experience.

Sangria with strawberries in it sounds like an EXCELLENT idea, but the only ingredient in it that I have on hand is the red wine. Close enough.
I love butternut squash soup too! Even at the end of summer.
