Garden a la Brooklyn

26 05 2010

Yesterday, I informed my dad that I wasn’t going to accompany him to the gym, which elicited a series of grunts. No way was I going to sweat inside when I could very well just sweat outside.

I went for a run, no, more of a jog, in the park nearby. The setting sun bathed everything in gold and I jogged by old couples holding hands, kids running after their dogs and middle schoolers playing baseball in crisp, white and blue uniforms. It was inherently pleasant, like a rare scene out of Catcher in the Rye that warms you right up.

I realized I haven’t posted a dinner I had at home in a while. I tend to eat random things on some days, when I come home from work ready to get the whole kitchen in my stomach.

Here, we have a can of Amy’s Lentil soup with Finn Crisps on the side. Note: I can’t just eat half a can of soup. I don’t know how people do it.

Homemade pickled tomatoes. My mom makes them a little spicy for my dad, which I highly appreciate.

And raspberries for dessert. These were on sale for $1 a box, so I currently have a serious raspberry occupation in my fridge.

Aside from spoiling me with her pickling skills, my mom has also turned my balcony into a vegetable oasis. I’m kind of in love with it.

Growing: cucumbers, tomatoes, dill, parsley, bell peppers and scallions.

Niicceeeee.

Today, it’s 90 degrees out, which means I am definitely avoiding the whole running outside business. Let’s cross our fingers for the A/C to be functional at the gym tonight.

Also, if you’re a LOST fan, you must see this:

I’m a huge LOST fan. And now there’s a void in my life. :(

Wow- what a great balcony! I definitely prefer working out outside than in a gym, but yeah…90 degrees calls for AC!

I don’t know who can eat 1/2 tin of soup either (more annoying is the soups that come in cartons/pouches that have something random like 3.5 servings!)

YUMM! I wish raspberries were cheap in Brazil, too…
They´re selling it for at least US$5 a mini-pack. I mean, WTH?!
Hahaha.
Wish you a great weekend, girl!
Brazilian XOXO´s,
Gabriela

I’m glad you admitted your non-ability to consume just half a can of soup. I hate it even more when the can contains 2.5 servings. What is THAT?

Pickled tomatoes sound great, and I am jealous of your adorable garden balcony. :)

You know, it’s probably an FDA sexism scheme. I mean, putting 2 servings in a can of soup is assuming that when you open it, you have someone to share it with. That special someone who’ll have babies with you and pay taxes and buy things that need FDA approval. Ha!

But really, it’s just so good, why would I eat half a can and leave it hangin?

I always have to eat the whole can of soup too– and typically with lots of hummus and crackers on the side :)

Hope you’re still enjoying some beautiful summer weather!!
