A favorite

“It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road.” -  Holden Caulfield

On my bookshelf, I have a special place reserved for precious, my most favorite and cherished books:

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger has always been a favorite of mine. I read it at least six times when I was younger and will surely reread it again.

So it saddened me to find out that the author J.D. Salinger passed away in his home yesterday. I think he was just as interesting as Holden’s character in the book. Have you read it? It’s incredibly good.

The highlight of today’s eats was definitely breakfast. I did a little victory dance when I found this at the local grocery store the other day:

I mixed the yogurt with 1/4 cup dry oats + flax and put it in the fridge overnight. In the morning, I added a banana, cinnamon and crunchy PB:

Okay, so this is a mess in a bowl, but it tasted heavenly: chocolate, PB and banana. An epic combination! Like eating dessert for breakfast. Can’t wait to have it again!

The rest of the day was kind of standard: gym, job applications, lunch, job applications, dinner, etc.

Man,  I am really bummed about Salinger. Sorry for the lamest post in the history of posts. I’m gonna go work on my smile.

I’ll stop rambling with another favorite quote of mine from the book:

“Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.”

I’ve never read anything by Salinger, but I would really like to read Catcher in the Rye now that you’ve suggested it…It’s always sad to see intelligent and respected people pass.

I read Catcher in the Rye in high school. I was sad to hear he died too!

I can’t believe Salinger died! Catcher in the Rye has been one of my favorites since high school.

Agh, it made me sad to learn that Salinger died too. I loved Catcher in the Rye as well as all of his short stories.

I’ve never been a Salinger lover, but I do love the Mitchell and Hemingway titles. Enjoy!

The book is about a little boy who is trying to deal with his father’s death in the 9/11 attacks. It’s written from his perspective and it’s absolutely magical. The author (lives in Brooklyn!) came to my school last year to talk about it and it was fantastic.

I first got into Foer after reading “Everything is Illuminated,” which is connected to Ukrainian roots. Also, he has a new book out called “Eating Animals,” about raising his son on a vegetarian diet. I asked for it for my bday :)

He’s my man. I’d love to hang out with him. Maybe in heaven. ;-)

It did make me sad to hear that he passed, though. It’s always a little sad when someone like him is gone.

oh, and isn’t that yogurt amazing? I love it! Wish I could find it here.

You should totally read Catcher In the Rye, it will take you like 5 minutes, it’s really short!

And I actually saw the yogurt first on your blog and have wanted it ever since :)

Sadly, I’ve never read it, but I should! There are a lot of “classics” that I’ve never read, despite the fact that I was an English major in school.

But I LOVE Hemingway and Steinbeck and see those in your pile :)
