Back in business

29 12 2009

Hi everyone,

I’ve missed some blogging days but I have good reasons. We had to send our Ukrainian visitors off, unpack all my stuff from school and settle into my room. I also haven’t been feeling well for a while and finally went to the doctor today. I’m now taking antibiotics for my crazy sore throat and swollen tonsils. Wonderful, right?

Because I’m sick, all I want is to eat warm stuff. Banana oats with sliced almonds & raisins:

And pumpkin oats:

My brother and his girlfriend have a “Sunday Bagel Boy ritual,” which means I get a free coffee ;)

This morning, I had a cereal bowl with a new to me Greek yogurt:

Brown Cow in Vanilla:

It’s thick, creamy and has 14 grams of protein. It’s also less sweet than Chobani. My only complaint about Chobani is its sweetness so I’m really excited that I finally found Brown Cow in my supermarket. It’s pretty much the same price-wise and I’ll definitely buy this again.

Tomorrow, my roommate ex-roommate and best friend Liz is coming to visit me through New Year’s. In preparation for Russian food galore, my mom and I stepped by the store after the doctor’s appointment, which means we got home really late and hangry.

Luckily, grandma made borsh. A pot of this doesn’t last more than two days in this household. We also had fresh baked, still warm rye bread, grandma’s pickled cabbage and half-sour pickles.

Yeah. I should’ve asked Santa for a gym membership. :)

I’m really excited to spend time with Liz and welcome the new year. I’ll be sure to photo-chronicle our adventures.

Who’s your best friend?

I love brown cow!! And it’s pretty cheap since those lids save you a couple bucks each time you buy a few!!

after discovering Brown Cow and Oikos I have rarely gone back to chobani — which is slightly awful because it’s much cheaper. Oh the price we pay for quality yogurt!

Yum, your gramma’s borscht looks like a real panacea! I’m sorry to hear that you’re under the weather, so slurp up lots of that Slavic culinary goodness!

Feel better, Olga!

I can’t wait for your New Year’s recap! Everything your grandma makes always looks soo tasty!

I have different “bests” for different things… My best friend from home, my best friend in Russia, my best friend(s) from school, my best friend to go to for advice, etc… I can’t pick one overall winner.

Aw, bummer you’re under the weather! But I’m so glad to hear you’re back in our neck of the woods (and joining us for dinner in a couple weeks–WOOT!). AND with your college career behind you, no less. Wowie girl, no wonder it has caught up with your immune system! Feel better. :)

I’m sorry you were feeling sick! But hopefully that borsh makes you feel better :) I’ve never had it, but definitely want to. And fresh, warm rye bread on the side just sounds so good.

My best friends are definitely my sisters and mom. Well, basically my whole family.

Scott for shiz, BFFs for ever. :D

Sorry that you aren’t feeling well Olga. I get the need for warm foods, I am the same when feeling a little ills. Seltzer usually helps my throat because the carbonation will “scratch” my throat and make it feel better. Crazy I know!

I feel the same way about seltzer but the doctor ordered me not to drink anything carbonated or even HOT! Just warm. Weird but true :)

Yay significant others! Getting lots of love up in here!

I’ve been fighting a runny nose for the past week, hopefully I won’t end up at the doctor! I hope you feel better :)

Good to know about that Brown Cow yogurt, I’m a die-hard Oikos fan, who does not care for Chobani, so maybe I’ll give it a try!

My friends have gone through a major transition this past year, my best friends now, are people that I didn’t even know a year ago! crazy right?
