Before I put on those sunglasses

14 12 2009

There’s a great saying about New England:

If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes…

and it will get worse.

That was definitely the case today. I got on the bus in Amherst this afternoon as it snowed, drove through Connecticut while it poured and got to New York to it drizzling. Seven hours later, I’m tired.

We’re flying out to the Dominican Republic early tomorrow morning but I couldn’t leave without addressing some products that have been piling up on my camera.

Did you know Trader Joe’s sells the taste of winter in coffee cans?

This Wintry Blend is loaded with  peppercorns, cinnamon and cloves. It’s one of the best coffees I’ve had a in while. An additional bonus? The smell as it’s brewing. It’s cozy! It makes me want to forgive the misbehaving weather.

I’ve also recently tried this Berry Whole Foods Energy Bar that I received as a sample from Amazing Grass.

The nutritional profile is unsurprisingly fantastic:

But the taste? Gross. The texture was okay but it tasted pretty bland, like dry and tasteless berries….I wouldn’t buy this particular flavor.

I won a Zevia giveaway from GDW a while ago and finally tried two kinds out of the variety pack.

The first one was a Cola (check out the nutritional info here). I don’t drink soda and rarely have a craving for it. This was okay but a Diet Coke still tastes better…the overly sweet aftertaste really threw me off. I think for someone who can’t live without Coke this is a good alternative to the original. But for someone like me, who rarely craves soda, I’d buy the real deal when I wanted it.

The other Zevia that I tried was a Ginger Ale (nutritional info here). This also had an overly sweet aftertaste but less offensive than the Cola. I’d probably buy this for the rare occasion of having a mixed drink night. Okay, maybe it’s not so rare but you know what I mean. ;) It’s pretty good.

Last but not least, I had a “foodie moment” the other day when I walked into Target with my roommate and said, “You know what I could really go for? Dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt.” She looked at me like I was crazy.

But this stuff is IT. It’s the perfect combo of sweet and salty. I highly recommend.

Now that my food blogger conscience is clear, I can go dig up my summer clothes and prepare for a major dose of Vitamin D.

I’ll be back next week with a recap of paradise. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Man, that New England scenery looks positively stunning (and a little annoying to have to travel through.)

As a fellow foodie, I find nothing insane about dark chocolate with sea salt. It is the PERFECT combination of flavors and always a craving soothing treat.

Have a blissful vacay in the DR!

I’m all about salty and sweet, so that chocolate bar has me all hot and bothered.

Not really…because it’s cold here, but you know what I mean, right?

I definitely found the “cola” a little weird! My favorites were the cherry and orange – because i feel like it’s okay for those flavors to be insanely sweet! :)

I had a similar incident with my roommates when I got overly excited about kombucha squash in the supermarket. If only they knew what they were missing out on!

Enjoy the sunshine!
