Fakesgiving

Fakesgiving

A celebration of friends and copious amounts of food that significantly resembles the holiday of Thanksgiving. Based on the philosophy that “friends are family,” and takes place the week before Thanksgiving break.

A gracious host, such as a friend with a lovely house and a cute haircut, is a necessity.

Appetizers aren’t required but are always welcome.

I thought it was goat cheese topped with a cranberry mixture at first, but looks can be deceiving. It was a mix of cream cheese, blue cheese and cheddar. It tastes just like goat cheese. Maybe even better.

Wine is pretty essential to loosen up the spirits.

The host labors over the turkey.

And the guests bring along the additions.

Like homemade challah bread

And a huge steak?! Someone has a “meat farm share.” It’s grass-fed…but it still scares me :)

And gravy in nothing else but the gravy cow

And here’s the plate that puts you over the edge: two different kinds of stuffing, turkey with cranberry sauce, cabbage with bacon, roasted brussel sprouts,  green beans, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with an almond & brown sugar topping.

Here’s where you insert a break that consists of games and a brisk walk outside. Dessert seems impossible.

That is, until you see what it is…

Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies

Homemade macaroons

And my culinary contributions: a classic pumpkin pie and the mind-blowing Vanilla & Pear Crumble Pie from BitchinCamero. (Make this now).

Served with walnut-maple ice cream. I can’t even attempt to describe how good that is.

But beware.

These are your friends:

These are your friends post the Fakesgiving meal:

Deliriousness ensues. But it’s so worth it.

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

Fakesgiving looks just as good as Thanksgiving to me! My favorite thanksgiving dish is my mom’s sweet potato casserole as well. I wonder if my mom’s and Devan’s mom’s recipes are similar! :)

Oh man, that challah has me drooling!
My favorite dish is probably the cranberries–nobody else likes them in my family!

Fakesgiving! How cute :) The food looks fab, especially all those yummy desserts! My favorite thanksgiving dish is the roasted veggies, or something with sweet potatoes. And cheesecake as a dessert, haha!

That “gravy cow” made me laugh out loud. When I got married I got three different cow creamers and my mom and I thought I’d start collecting them but the husband threatened divorce so I guess my collection will be staying small!

Looks great! Especially the pie! :D I have never been to a Thanksgiving dinner (!) but I LOVE anything with sweet potato, turkey + cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.

What are you doing this Thursday? You’re more than welcome at my family’s Thanksgiving. Since it’s Eastern European, it’s even more epic than the American celebration :)

Haha love the gravy cow!! Maple-walnut ice cream…sounds amazing! I actually made that once but something went wrong and it got all weird and crystallized. I think I’m attempting something similar for this Thanksgiving though!

My favorite dish is probably this sweet potato souffle my sister makes. Sooo good!

I just love the whole idea of Thanksgiving. I can’t even pick one dish! Maybe stuffing? I really dig on mashed potatoes though too. Mmmm! The feast looks awesome Olga!
