Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my last post. It was nice to hear that so many of you had similar experiences with thought-provoking imagery before.
I feel better today because I thought more about deriving a lesson from the experience. I think the film was just another affirmation of the fact that my passion lies in working toward social justice, in one way or another. I just can’t see myself doing anything else.
Now, I’ll step off the soapbox and take you into the kitchen
I found a new friend, courtesy of Trader Joe’s:

It fit in nicely with some Grape Nuts, Stonyfield Farm vanilla yogurt, flax, banana & cinnamon. It was a wild breakfast party up in here.

For lunch, I wanted me some soup. I’ve had the recipe for African Kale & Yam Soup bookmarked forever and finally had all the ingredients on hand.
This recipe comes from Lindsay over at Happy Herbivore, who is currently working on a new cookbook! Not only is this soup super easy to make, but it’s also incredibly flavorful. I loved the fusion of all the spices:

It’s overwhelmingly delicious and comforting:

I also made Pumpkin Spice Roasted Chickpeas for a fantastic side salad topping. The recipe came from no one other than my favorite MILVF (Mom I‘d Like to go Vegan For, obviously). Must buy more chickpeas. Now!
I topped my greens with Annie’s Goddess Dressing. My roommates don’t like it (what’s wrong with them?) so more for me

The blogosphere has been my most delicious cookbook yet!
I have to review for a quiz tonight and prepare for something else tomorrow…I’m not going to say what it is just yet because I’m superstitious, but I promise to reveal developments as they come up
Where do you find your recipes?
P.S. Pop over to Megan’s Munchies for a chance to acquire some decadent popcorn!

Well hi new friend! You look yummy
Last night, Rob and I were daydreaming aloud (ya know) about trips we want to take. Top of the list? Moscow.
Every recipe Lindsay has created is golden, right? Love it!
oh! your soup-to-be picture is SO pretty!
i love reading blogs for cooking inspiration and food-combination ideas. but when i have something in mind that i want to make, epicurious is my best friend!
that soup sounds so awesome!! comfortinggggggggggg
I have been dying to try Ethiopian food. There is a restaurant in the city that sounds bizomb. Wana come?!
HAPPY WEEKEND BEAUTIFUL OLGA!!!!!!!!!!!
“Clean FOOD,” that is. I’m not sure what a “Clean Foo” is, maybe it’s a hygenic goofball?
Those chickpeas sound and look incredible! Love the picture of all those spices, so vibrant.
My favorite cookbook (aside from the blogosphere, as you mentioned) is my Complete Cooking Light Cookbook. Not only are there healthy recipes for every occasion, rhyme, or reason…but it’s filled with how-to cooking basics, a guide to what utensils you really need, and an index of healthy ingredients and their nutritional benefits. “Clean Foo” by Terry Walters is a close second.
Kudos on working on your goal towards social justice. It’s a cause that (unfortunately) goes largely ignored, so it takes some one with a big heart to strive to achieve it. Yay, liberty!
That soup looks so good! Flagged it. I find most of my recipes from cooking magazines and blogs.
I brought back the TJ’s pumpkin granola and Annie’s Goddess dressing (and Woodstock) to try…yet to bust them open, but I am excited to try them!
Most of my recipes these days come from other bloggers or magazines. I don’t have any cookbooks!
i can’t wait to get home and get my hands on that granola!!! yay for TJ’s and CA!!!
I get a lot of my recipes online, which makes me feel guilty because I have a ton of awesome cookbooks. Eventually, I’m going to try a Julie & Julia-esque thing where I try to cook my way through one of them. It’ll probably be ethnic food.
The kale soup looks awesome. I love all the pretty spices.
I love recipes that have a ton of spices! Guarantees that they’ll be good
I get most of my recipes online. I love SmittenKitchen and 101Cookbooks. But my favorite cookbooks are Barefoot Contessas. Ina Garten is the best! Cook’s Illustrated magazines also have some really good recipes.
My recipes usually come from blogs too. Unless I’m looking for something specific, then I use recipezaar.
I’ve been meaning to make Kath’s sweet potato and kale soup. I made it last year and it was amazing. I’ll have to try Lindsay’s yam and kale now too!
is it weird that I just want that pile of spices?
I think it’s awesome that you’re figuring out your passion for work – it shows up in the strangest places sometimes!
i have way too many cookbooks and find tons of recipes online, too.
that granola looks soo sooo good!! Good luck on your quiz!
I seriously need to move to a place where there’s a trader joes.. I’m missing out big time.
I love eatbetteramerica.com for my recipes. Good stuff!
Have a wonderful day sunshine
I am currently munching on that exact granola…as a smoothie topper of course!
Wow, that granola looks delicious, and so does your soup. I get my recipes from all you bloggers, and sometimes allrecipes.com. Or cooking light magazine. Good luck on your quiz!
you mean your trip to costa rica? great! where are you going to be between dec 21- jan 10th? I;ll be in the states!
