Jay-Z in the hizzle

26 10 2009

Well, hello there! Did you have a good weekend?

Mine was pretty stellar. Friday night involved a little bit of this:

Plus, a quite disturbing movie (Senseless) and a few party stops. At the second party, I ran into some students that I was the TA for last year, and all of them flipped out: “Olga?! What are you doing here?” Apparently, they assumed that I lived in a cave and did nothing but grade their papers. :) Good kids though.

Sunday morning was beautiful, and I ran a gorgeous 2.5 miles in the fall sun. Then I had to write a persuasive paper about a film that I love. I wrote about Fight Club, without even mentioning Brad Pitt’s abs.

Seriously, you can handwash clothes on that stomach.

....but you could hand wash clothes on that, right?

That was a really fun paper to write…Wait, did I just say that homework is fun? Someone call the nerd squad.

In the evening, we had another engagement:

But before that, we pre-gamed pre-concerted…yeah, that works, with some gin & tonics.

N.E.R.D/Pharrell was one of the openers, which was amazing! Jay-Z did an excellent job! I had so much fun and actually felt like I was back in Brooklyn for a little bit :) Lots of NYC love.

What I loved about him is the fact that he took the time (and I mean like, at least 15 minutes) to recognize people all over the audience. He’d go “You in Section Z over there, with the blue shirt and Yankees hat, I see you! Yeah, thanks for comin’ out tonight!” He said he didn’t take his fame for granted and thanked each person for being there.

The audience’s hands were doin’ the HOVA for about 95% of the show:

Two favorite moments:

  • The song “Big Pimpin” started and the audience was going crazy but then Jay-Z stopped it and said: “Hold on, hold on! Y’all can’t treat this like any other song! It’s a cultural phenomena!” Then we started over and now I’m voiceless :)
  • The last song he performed was “Forever Young” and everyone pulled out their lighters and phones and lit up the venue. It was so beautiful.

I’m sorry, is this a food blog? Right, yes.

This morning, I had a bowl of apple cinnamon oats with a hint of pumpkin.

I microwaved half a chopped Empire apple (NEW  YORK, represent!…sorry…still high on Jay-Z :) ) with lots of cinnamon for a few minutes. While that was going I made 1/3 cup oats + ~2/3 cup skim milk + 1 TBS flax seed +1 TBS TJ’s Pumpkin Butter on the stove top. Add a spoonful of PB and you’re good to go. Delish!

Well, I have an exam to study for but a lot of it is about tofu and such (World Food Habits), so I’ll be fine.

What are your Halloween plans? Are you dressing up?

Glad to know you got a lil Brooklyn up in there this week – it’s not healthy to go too long without, you know! Sounds like a ROCKIN concert! I’m going to totally dork out now but the last concert I saw was JT (in like summer 07! gaaah it’s been a while) and it totally blew my mind, I can’t lie. I don’t know all his songs or anything but he just put on a SHOW and we had so much fun. And then I fell in love with him, against all odds. ;)

Please say I can still be your friend after that story, haha…

I guess I’ll dress up because apparently, I’m hosting the French grad student party at my house. Who knew? Want to come shake things up?

Yes, but on two conditions:

1) Only if your hot friend is going to be there (the one with the beard). 2) Only if I can get all the grad students so drunk that they believe I’m fluent in French.

I’m seriously jealous of all of your concert adventures. JAY-Z! I would have gone mad for Big Pimpin’, I go crazy as is just when it comes on my Ipod.

Holy man I can’t believe it’s almost Halloween. I intend to celebrate SOMEHOW but I dunno what exactly my plan is yet. Nor my costume. Slacka!

OMG that concert sounds awesome. Definitely like Jay-Z. I’m dressing up as a devil(overdone, I know but I normally do weird costumes) and probably going out in the city. It is a SATURDAY after all AND daylights saving is Sunday so we get an extra hour to recover from partying.

what a fun weekend! That concert sounds like a lot of fun – I love when the performers seem like they’re happy to be there, you know?

My family will be here for part of the weekend, but we’ll probably be handing out candy to the neighborhood kids :)

What an awesome weekend! I saw a show this weekend about how disgustingly rich JayZ and Beyonce are. They need to help a sister out.

No Halloween costumes for me. I know, I’m a scrooge.

God I love the cultural phenomena. It was so good. I can’t wait til we’re back in Brooklyn at parties. YOU KNOW I’M GONNA DO IT. And since this a food blog, yes… I enjoy a nice cheese. :)
