The story I’m about to write
Unfolds with the events of Friday night.
When the kitchen clock struck six
I knew I had a dinner to fix.
I made some salad and butternut squash fries
My lovely roommate shared a slice of her cabbage pie.

After dinner, we were off to the liquor store
The source of my vices, oh beer galore!
We loaded our loot in the trunk
And danced to some James Brown funk.

Then, the consumptions began
And it was repeated, again…and again

We went to a party which at first, was great
Until about a 100 people decided to invade
And I ain’t even tryin’ to exxagerate!
Going home was a definite challenge
Drunk texting was winning, it had an advantage.
I was rudely awakened at the crack of dawn by our cat
I haven’t taught her what “mommy has the spins!” means yet.

This morning, my prof came over to drop off an academic rec
She found me on my couch, a hungover wreck.
I was drinking water and eating a Wasa crisp in my pajamas
My hair was still in shambles and I’ve been up for hours.

I could smell the freshness of the carbs she brought
A fresh loaf of sunflower flax bread, sweet dough!

We also had light turkey sausage and eggs over-easy
After this breakfast, I started to feel less sleazy.

My prof didn’t pity me, just laughed really hard
But she gave us a present before she did part:

I felt a little better and decided to go on a run
Three fabulous miles under the autumn sun.
This recap reminds me of the good college days
When I’m done, I’ll miss even the ones covered with haze.

So I guess I should give this pumpkin ale a go?
ABSOLUTELY
haha, i love this!
“momma has the spins”
that loaf of bread looks amazing!
can you write me a letter as a poem too?! can’t wait to hear what’s going on in your life! and i love reading your blog more and more.
love it!
What an awesome idea on the butternut squash fries!!!
And the new look of your blog (I haven’t checked it in a while) is great.
Where’s the recipe for butternut squash fries???? Good thing the hangover didn’t ruin your rec!
I was expecting her to turn around and say “Actually, I forgot to add something to your rec…”
Butternut squash fries are really easy to make, not to mention delicious.
1. Preheat oven to 400 F 2. Cut squash into fries-form 3. Toss with chili & paprika powder. (This makes them spicy & sweet. Some people just prefer the sweet, so they toss them in a combination of cinnamon and brown sugar). 4. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking/baking spray. 5. Place in oven. Bake for 30-40 min, flipping half way through baking.
I’ve been known to eat a whole squash this way. McDonald’s has nothing on them!
Thanks for commenting! -Olga
