Perhaps. It might also be crabmeat.
This afternoon, I met up with Jill for lunch at the City Crab & Seafood Company located on Park Ave South in Manhattan.

It’s a popular place among businessmen and women, a pricey restaurant offering a wide selection of fresh seafood. The interior is welcoming, spacious and bright.

Normally, my college-student-wallet would deem this place off limits but we were able to have a spectacular lunch at a price that didn’t break the bank because of NYC Restaurant Week 2009.
NYC Restaurant Week began in 1992 and has been going strong since then. During this time every summer, a bunch of top, swanky restaurants in NYC offer a prix-fixe lunch and dinner menu for $24 and $35, respectively. It’s a popular time of the year, since it gives people the opportunity to try out restaurants they would not go to on a regular basis. Over 250 restaurants are participating in the event this summer. You can learn more details about it here.
Jill and I were more than excited to take advantage of this opportunity:

The $24 lunch prix-fixe menu includes an appetizer, an entree and a dessert. We previewed the menu online before coming in and knew exactly what we wanted. Great minds think alike: we wanted the same appetizer and entree
Appetizer: Chilled Gazpacho with Maryland Crabmeat, topped with guacamole and sour cream.

I don’t have gazpacho often and really enjoyed this! Although it was a bit too salty, there were generous chunks of crab meat throughout the bowl, which I liked.
We also got a bread basket with fresh, doughy bread, crackers with roasted garlic and whipped butter.

Entree: Crabmeat Stuffed Maine Lobster, with steamed corn on the cob and Old Bay butter.

The crabmeat on the tail was very flavorful and well seasoned. I loved that after it was gone, it revealed the meat in the tale:

And of course, there are the magnificent claws:

What can I say? As a seafood enthusiast, I love lobster and this definitely hit the spot. It’s a rare and delicious treat.
Warm towels were brought over to our table right before dessert.

I was going to get the same thing as Jill, but then we decided to get different things and share.
Dessert: Jill got the Chocolate Gelato with whipped cream and fresh mint:

I had a bite; it was very dark chocolaty and light.
I ordered the Florida Key Lime Pie, with whipped cream and caramel sauce.

I never eat key lime pie and was worried that it would be “too limey” but it was a perfectly refreshing end to our glorious meal!
I would absolutely have a business lunch at this place!
I’m planning to continue taking advantage of NYC Restaurant Week, and as long as I can get reservations, there shall be food.
Have you heard of Restaurant Week? Is there something like it where you live?

yay for restaurant week seafood!!! especially when it involves lobster. and lobster stuffed with crab, omg. i fully approve of your selection! some things make me happy to live in ny, and this is one of them
$24 for all that AND a warm towel!? Baller dude.
I totally missed LA’s restaurant week, dang!
that is a meal fit for a blogging queen! i wish my little CT town had restaurant week … we just have cow milking contests and tractor pulls.
DC has restaurant week. I used to love it when I first moved to the city. Gave me the opportunity to go to many restaurants I normally couldn’t afford. But after being here awhile and eating at a lot of places, I have noticed how much both the service and often, the quality, of food falls during restaurant week. Often the waiters complain about it…I just kind of feel like the whole mood and excitement has been killed here in DC.
Happiness Awaits
Yes! Our week is this week too! We are going out tomorrow night to try something new. YaY!
I was drooling over your lobster, omg how yummy!
Crap, it IS restaurant week! I totally spaced on it because it feels like only a second ago it was restaurant “week” in Brooklyn. Oh man, I guess I need to get on top of this…
Umm seriously Restaurant Week is one of my favorite things about NYC. AND its more than just one week which I LOVE!
what an awesome meal!
I love the idea of restaurant week! We don’t have anything like that here, but it sounds so cool
I wish we had restaurant week in Champaign…for the three restaurants that we have, haha.
I’d really like one with lobster, like yours!
That lobster looks wonderful!
I have a hard time wrapping my head around the concept of $24 for lunch being “cheap”. I don’t think I have ever been to a restaurant that had a dinner for $24! I guess that’s what I get for being a small town farm girl!
Restaurant week in NYC would be the closest thing to me but the 22 dollar train ride into the city would probably negate the savings
I’ve never had key lime pie but that slice looks fab!
LOVE restaurant week
The lobster looks incredible! I’ve walked past that place a few times and it always looks amazing…
I don’t think there is anything similar here but during the International Festival (August!) most restaurants have special offers and deals. My mom is on a mailing list and gets a ton of coupons for things like 2 for 1, etc
Sorry… forgot to say great post – can’t wait to read your next one!

Unfortunately, I’ve never been a seafood fan (a pity, since I live on the Maine coast!!), but I DO love key lime pie. And yours looks delicious. Glad you liked it
I kept thinking this was Rose’s blog. Where am I???
OOh! Fancy meal! I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything like Restaurant Week in Alabama, but it sounds like a great idea!
What an amazing lobster! And the key lime pie looks delicious. I’m glad it was good
I’ve never heard of Restaurant Week, but it sounds so cool!
