Sometimes, all you need…

29 06 2009

is a date with a good friend.

I spent my Sunday hanging out with one of my greatest friends Jill. We’ve both been in the dumps lately on men and life, but mostly men, so we met up to spend some time together.

Before I ran out of the house to meet her in the City, I had Van’s Blueberry mini waffles with raw crunchy almond butter & a banana.

We were determined to get a dose of retail therapy but Forever 21 pissed us off so much with its loud and obnoxious music that we sort of gave up. I find myself in a weird time in my fashion life…too old for stuff like Forever 21 (or just bored of it!) but too young (orrr cheap :) ) for things like J.Crew. I’m screwed.

I satisfied my Curly’s Vegetarian Lunch addiction and got my favorite Mexican dish with a side salad + carrot ginger dressing.

Pop 400 Million Wrap: burrito of organic brown rice and beans, avocado, lettuce, pico de gallo, cheese and sour cream in a whole wheat tortilla topped with tomatillo salsa and cotija cheese.

I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it! :)

I brought along these mints I got from Newman’s Own to sample after our lunch.

Verdict? Boooo. I think the tin box is cute but you see how it says ginger on it? Check out the ingredients:

Organic Sugar, Gum Arabic, Natural Flavor, Organic Corn Syrup, Rice Bran Extract.

Donde esta ginger?! These aren’t very minty at all. Jill said: “I feel like I need another mint after this.” I concur.

We wasted some time in Barnes & Noble before going to see a movie. We also stepped by TJ’s to buy movie snacks. Jill kindly demonstrated for the camera:

We decided to see…Away We Go

Both Jill and I enjoyed the movie. It reminds me of Garden State in many ways, it’s funny, touching, real and interesting. The acting is spectacular and if you have a heart, you’re going to cry. :) I loved it!

Dinner was nothing picture worthy, some chicken & veggies.

Sometimes all you need is to cry over a good flick with your best friend and melty dark chocolate all over your hands.

When was the last time you hung out with a good friend? What’d you do?

I want to see that movie – I love Jim from The Office! I’m so happy you had a good day :) I don’t think I’ve had a day with any of my good friends since April, I definitely need to get on that!

Those waffles look delicious. I am gluten-intolerant, but I just cannot resist pancakes and waffles.. mmm

sounds like a blast, I spent last Wed with a good friend from school by her pool, it was a great way to spend the day and made me less homesick for school lol

Aw fun! Most of my friends and I spend major hours laying by the pool, and I find that some of the best (and most random) conversations take place during our days in the sun.

I can seriously relate to your fashion feelings right now, I can’t find anything lately!

forever 21 stresses me out so much! i’m sad those mints don’t taste good, because the packaging is perfection.

i threw a bridal shower for my best friend a couple weeks ago, and it was so wonderful to reunite with some of my high school friends for such a happy occasion. good friends are so important!

hahah how funny that i thought the EXACT same thing at Forever 21 this weekend….right before I spent $50 there on 2 summer dresses. hahahah I convinced myself that if a 50 year old lady shops there, I, being a 20-something year old should too. They have PLENTY of stuff that’s age appropriate for a spectrum of maturities, so as long as the shorts don’t hike up too high and the jewelry doesn’t get too out of control, I’m sure you’ll be fine. :) Plus, your wallet will thank you in the end. muhahaha

Oh my gosh you always go to the best restaurants. I am already on Curly’s website. hahahah

I got to spend the entire weekend with my best friend since high school. It was so great and exactly what I needed during a very hellish time at work. We just hungout, partied and talked a whole lot!

Um the burrito looks fantastic and why can’t I get anything like that around here?! Jeesh!

I’m so sorry you were disappointed in Candle 79. That’s actually one of my frustrations with going out to eat, if the food is bad I feel like I just wasted money.

CURLY’S!!!! NOM NOM NOM

Totally feel you on the retail issue – F21 is totally annoying, but I don’t want to spend the kind of money I need to spend in order to dress myself proper. Barf. Yay for good friends though. :)

Glad you got to spend time with a good friend – sounds like it was much needed!

I am actually hanging with a new friend this Thursday and really looking forward to some girl time! Other than that, I drove up to Pittsburgh to see my best friend a few weeks ago, and it was a great time.

ugh, shopping has been hard for me lately, too. I can’t buy stuff for work at AMerican Eagle, but I don’t want to shop at Jcpenney’s either. it’s tough being between teenager/can’t afford what I actually want.

I’d take hanging out with my best friends over a guy any day right now- mine are in NY so it’s been TOO long since we caught up properly…*counting down until October* Glad you had a good day- Curly’s looks so good. What’s up with ginger candy not containing ginger?! Am with you on Forever 21. I think they should have a couple of evenings a week where it’s banned to anyone under 21 and they play much more chilled music and offer canapes :P

Great snacks for moving going!? My favorite thing is to bring my own goodies b/c movie snacks are so damn expensive and the selection blows. I saw a movie last night with my roommate Caroline and her boyfriend and it was a great way to end a nice weekend. I love going to the movies!!!
That burrito looks soooo yummy. I can understand why you would never get sick of that. I mean come on, who would!?
Have a great monday my dear!

I should be hanging out with my friend next week when she visits from England!

Your burrito looks great! What do you think of the Van’s blueberry waffles? Everytime I toast them, they seem rather soggy.

Ah, I love tasty burrito dates with friends!

Sorry those mints were a bust because you’re right–the packaging is pretty sweet.

Crikey! That burrito is amazing.
One of my favorite “friend dates” that I remember is when my friend and I went to Trader Joe’s, then hit up Evos for some veggie burgers. It was so perfect.
