Especially if the good people at Sonny & Joe’s sent you seven containers of it.

To preface this review, I must say that I was swayed even before I opened the containers. After all, this company was born and bred in Brooklyn

The inside of the lids also have fun facts about Brooklyn on them:

Yeah born in a foreign country, represent!
Sonny & Joe’s prides itself on its special ingredient, the WOW FACTOR. On their website, they say:
“Sonny & Joe’s takes no shortcuts by settling for cheaper local ingredients. We literally go to the ends of the earth for meatier Turkish chickpeas, authentic stone-ground Ethiopian sesame, Chilean garlic, Galilee olives and spices from the markets of Europe and Asia.“
My hummus accomplices:
Liz: best friend & roommate. Spent the summer in the Middle East, giving her hummus expertise.
Mike: Liz’s boyfriend, classmate & friend. Loves hummus, appreciates free food in hummus form.
Amy: neighbor, classmate & friend. Loves me and hummus. What else do I need to say here?
Fallon: friend & classmate. Took the tasting very seriously and also reads the blog. Hi Fallon!
We sampled everything on a variety of crackers. Example:

Just Hummus

This is the plain variety but it is the thickest and creamiest hummus I’ve ever tasted. I feel like I can eat a lot of hummus in one seating but this was so filling I had to stop! I loved it and would certainly purchase it.
Liz thought it was “bland by comparison” to other flavors.
Hummus Toasted Sesame

This one was one of my favorites. It had just a hint of the sesame seeds which added an interesting texture and taste component.
Liz said it’s “good, but not unique-tastes like mine but creamier.”
Hummus Pinoli Nuts

I liked it but wasn’t impressed. It was alright. I couldn’t really figure out the pinoli contribution here.
Mike agreed by saying: “it tastes just like regular hummus and the nuts added nothing.”
Garlic Addiction

If you love garlic or hummus, and garlic and hummus together, this is the product for you. The garlic taste is overpowering. I don’t think you’ll be kissing anyone for a while after this (unless, they also ate this with you. Is this even a review anymore?) Anyway, I liked it ’cause I love garlic.
Liz thought it had “too much garlic, which takes away more than it adds.”
Hummus Galilee

I am a fan of olives but only in small doses, so I didn’t like this much. The olives are very present, a strong taste.
Fallon said she didn’t like the aftertaste and it was her least favorite out of all of them.
Liz also didn’t like it but because she hates olives.
Babaganoush

I liked it this a lot, until I saw that mayo was the second ingredient…Then I sort of stopped eating it….but
Fallon said it was her favorite because of its sweetness.
Liz said it was “so good, love the texture and the toasted eggplant flavor.”
Amy said it was her least favorite because it was “too drippy and not thick enough.”
Hot Enough Hummus

I am a fan of spicy and this is definitely where it’s at. I loved this flavor, it was definitely my favorite. I could still taste the chickpeas but the taste is complimented by a nice hot red pepper spice with the creaminess still in tact. It was a hit with other tasters as well.
Amy said it was her favorite: “It’s original-and just hot enough.”
Mike said “spicy hummus is amazing and this is good spicy hummus.”
Liz said: “love the spiceness-mix in the peppers, so good.”
Bottom line: I would absolutely buy this hummus, especially the Hot Enough variety. It is creamy, rich and full of flavor. I’ve never had better hummus! I give it five stars!
You can see where you can purchase this product here. As always, feel free to ask me any questions.
Special thanks to my reviewer friends and Sonny & Joe’s for the excellent hummus!
We’ll probably eat the rest of it tonight, we’re hosting a potluck at our house.
Hope your weekend’s going well!
