Dealing with higher powers.

I think that someone or something much larger than me is responsible for my un-productivity today. It was all thanks to this:

TUM TUM TUM...the LIBRARY

TUM TUM TUM...the LIBRARY :)

After my intellectual marathon last weekend, I was sure I was done with it and could finish up the rest of my assignments at home. But today, I decided to head over to the library to get some work done.

Before I left, I had an oldie but a goodie: a bowl of stovetop oats

1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, cinn, 1 banana, flax, 1/3 cup ff cottage cheese, shredded coconut, raisins & smooth PB

1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, cinn, 1 banana, flax, 1/3 cup ff cottage cheese, shredded coconut, raisins & smooth PB

I got on my bike and got to the end of my street only to realize my back tire was flat. No worries, I just took the bus. Then I get to the library only to realize that I forgot my laptop charger. No worries, I can work for at least 2-3 hrs before it needs to be charged. Then I spent 2 hrs talking to a friend about how I’m being unproductive. Okay, so maybe the last part was just me being lazy ;)

Either way, I decided to leave in order to try to get some work done at home. I walked home (~2 miles) which was wonderful because I pass babbling brooks, open fields and a farm stand. I’m going to miss the gorgeous scenery when I’m back home.

I got home and ate my packed lunch I took to the library with me.

Grilled chicken, tomato, spinach, cucumber slices, baby muenster cheese on toasted Arnold's Double Protein bread.

I’m posting now because I want to ban myself from the interwebs for a while and try to write this 10 page paper. It’s not even hard! I’m just having trouble starting it.

I leave you with a product review. Check out my new page RATING IT for all my reviews.

Arnold’s Soft Naturals Bread Review

A while ago, Rena sent me some Arnold breads to sample. Myself and my roommate (and her boyfriend :) ) have consumed this bread in various forms to test it out.

Arnold Soft 100% Whole Wheat

According to the website, Arnold Soft 100% Whole Wheat is:

  • A good source of fiber
  • Cholesterol free
  • No HFCS
  • Made with whole grains
  • Zero trans fat

Nutritional Info:

My take: I think first, it’s worth to say what I look for in a bread, other than good nutritional value. I love breads that are dense, not too soft and that are multidimensional (great as toast, with PB & J and regular sandwiches). With that said, I thought this bread was okay. My roommate used it to make a sandwich and was not satisfied…she described it as “spongy.” It also got soggy pretty fast when I packed a sandwich with it. I am not really a fan of the texture.

Arnold 100% Soft Honey Wheat

According to the website, this bread is also:

  • A good source of fiber
  • Cholesterol free
  • HFCS free
  • Zero trans fat
  • Made with whole grains

Nutritional Info:

My take: This bread had a nice sweet kick to it but its texture is also spongy and chewy. It goes well with PB & J because of the slight honey taste but I wouldn’t make other kinds of sandwiches (such as with tofu or deli meat) with it. My roommate also wasn’t impressed by this loaf any more than the first one.

Bottom line: I wouldn’t go out and buy this bread. Not only because I don’t like the texture and feel that it lacks bread versatility, but because I think Arnold offers other products that have awesome nutritional value, amazing taste and texture.

So, overall this bread isn’t bad, it just doesn’t fit my tastes. If you are a fan of spongy and soft breads, I would recommend using it to make toast, French toast or bread putting. I would not recommend it for deli meat/hummus/tofu/etc. sandwiches.

Happy Friday!

That sure is an intimidating library. Reaches to the sky!
Thanks for the bread reviews. After I started buying bread fro mGreat Harvest I fell in love with dense grain breads. It’s hard to go back to typical soft retail breads. but they are cheaper.

I always forget my charger. It’s the worst when that happens!

Hopefully you got your paper started by now, that’s definitely always the hardest part! Good luck :)
