One of my professors said that
Today started as one of those suspicious mornings, where everything seemed in its right place. It was good, almost too good.
I woke up before my alarm clock went off sans the sound of a torrential downpour outside my window and actual sun rays on my face (do you remember what that feels like? ‘Cause I was startled). There was precisely one mug of hot coffee left in the coffee pot and no dirty dishes in the sink. My roommates had already left, which meant I could blast NPR’s news roundup and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs while getting ready for my day.
Less than 45 minutes into this deceiving tranquility, things went back to normal. I forgot my camera on the couch and my SIGG water bottle was graciously spilling all over my notebooks in my backpack as I ran for the bus, instigating me to blurt out enough expletives to fill Sarah’s curse jar to the brim.
You win some, you lose some.
I did manage to have an incredible cookie for breakfast:

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 TBS unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 TBS Hemp Protein powder, flax & wheat germ, 2 TBS nf plain Fage, 2 TBS unsweetened apple sauce, 2 TBS unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 a small banana, 1 chopped date, some crushed pecans, the kitchen sink, cinnamon, almond butter & shredded coconut. Heated up in the micro for a minute? Heaven on a plate.
I tried to think back to the last couple of days to update you on my life. Everything was sort of a blur so I consulted my camera. I only found this:

Think a classy Reese’s Peanut Butter cup.
I snapped a picture of today’s lunch last night, so that’s also in photograph form:

Sabra Roasted Red Pepper hummus, reduced fat cheddar cheese, zucchini slices & paprika powder on Arnold's Double Protein bread. Toasted to perfection.
I had a meeting for my student health group tonight, so I grabbed Pita Pit for dinner (more hummus!)
Sorry this post is so food-lackluster, but I can give you academic updates?
I signed up for my last 5 classes as an undergraduate. In customary senioresque fashion, there are some mind-numbing courses that will be used primarily to catch up on sleep:
- Food Science 102, World Food Habits
- Anthropology 208, Human Ecology
And contradictory to that fashion, classes I am actually excited to take:
- Legal Studies 397, Torture, Terrorism & Law
- Journalism 397, Journalists in the Movies
- Journalism 450, Freedom of the Press
- I just got accepted to Phi Kappa Beta, a selective honors society.
- I also won a Service-Learning Award for Outstanding Community Service and Engagement (talk about a mouthful) from the honors college.
I know what you’re thinking “is there dough involved?” (well, that’s what my dad thinks
) but there’s none. Nevertheless, both ceremonies are catered and I can bring guests. You wanna join me Sarah?
I will be back with regular, photograph- rich posting tomorrow
My bed’s calling my name!

Congratulations on both the award and the honours society! While the money would be nice, it’s still a great honour!! Enjoy the free food!
My Sigg Bottle spills on everything! What is up with that!!!!?
Congrats on the honors society! Food Science doesn’t sound all that bad. You might be able to teach us something.
ahh Olga! I swear i was JUST thinking about you yesterday… and was like, hmm – where has that girl been?! then i realized i never added your new blog to my blogroll! I’m so glad i found you
The first 45 minutes sounded great! But when all else fails at least you still have that great food!
YESS!! It’s the last few classes of senior year. Enjoy them! But you will not miss them! muhahahaha unless you have to get up for work MUCH earlier than you did for class…then that might suck a little. Anyway…sorry!
I’ve just realized that I have been so busy I’ve been a TERRIBLE commenter and missed out on SO MUCH awesome food, so many great posts!!! Like that tasty looking bagel sandwich!! And I love how you your butta’s in a measuring spoon. You don’t get that kinda loyalty to the spoon very much these days!
Last but not least, i heaaart Giradellhi chocolates. YUM! Dark chocolate espresso is my favorite of all time!!!

your meals are all so creative! and congrats on the academic recognition!
congrats on the honors society!! haha, i know what you mean about good mornings being “too” good– leaky water bottles put a DAMPER on any day. bahahahaha. Get it? Damper?
It’s late. I apologize.
Congrats on the honor society!
I LOVE Pita Pit! I haven’t had it in a long time, though.
congrats on your academic achievements!
I’m collecting on that swear jar action. Gracie’s got to pay for chiropractor school somehow.
Congrats! PBK has a kind of weird initiation ceremony. At UVA, it involved signing a big, old book. My parents took approximately 2839403280432894032 pictures and insisted that I stand next to the big ass book and point to my name.
…Maybe take a friend.
YESSSSSSSSSSS i do, haha!! save a few things in your freezer for me, would you?
congrats on the award. i know you’re working SO hard on all of your projects, and you obviously deserve the recognition!
your breakfast cookie looks perfect, and i haven’t seen the pb filled ghirardelli before. i need to go on a mission!
I love Ghiradelli peanut butter chocolate bars. My husband makes fun of my love for all things PB flavored.
Your classes look so interesting – I miss being a student.
Congrats on Phi Betta Kappa!!!! That’s a real accomplishment. Look forward to getting lots of mail from them that you’ll throw away immediately
You should be very proud of yourself – PBK is a big honor.
