Since I’ve last updated, I got diagnosed with shin splints, ran out of a huge canister of oatmeal, got back two exams with excellent grades and went out to the bars…again.
First thing’s first, shin splints suck. It feels like someone is pulling my muscles away from my bones
My legs are horribly swollen too…I overdid it a little bit on the treadmill obviously.
Thanks for sharing your drink of choice with me. Some of you mentioned wine and new research shows that drinking wine may lower the risk of a rare esophageal cancer. Good news for us, eh?
Quick recap of yesterday’s eats:

pumpkin overnight oats with mini chocolate chips

TJ's Honey turkey sandwich with hummus, tomato & avocado and a pear while in the libs

A snack of Fage 0%, H2H & trail mix

Dinner at the Amherst Brewing Company: a portabello mushroom burger with smoked cheddar cheese, sweet potato fries, a pickle and a Honey Pilsner beer...I didn't eat the top portion of the bun.
We went out the The Harp later on and split some pitchers. Oh, college…That’s what happens when you live walking distance from the best Irish bar in town, ya know?
And have roommates, who like to drink.
I was running dangerously low on food by this point, so last night I made yogurt pumpkin overnight oats: 1/2 cup TJ’s European Style yogurt, 1/4 cup pumpkin, about 1/2 cup oats and flax left in the fridge overnight. This morning, I topped it with some Pam Anderson PB & PB Puffins. This was so filling and delicious! The yogurt and pumpkin made the oats soft and chewy.

I had like a four hour meeting on administrative healthcare costs (soooo exciting) and was starving by the time I got home. For lunch, I had a 1/2 cup of chili, a fresh tomato, some pretzels and an amazing tuna melt with reduced fat mozz cheese.

RECIPES page has this

Tuna salad: 1 can tuna, 1 TBS hummus, 1 TBS Smart Balance mayo, 1 carrot, parsley flakes and pepper
I also finished off with the rest of the juicy, delish mango:

My roommate and I picked up our farm share and finally went grocery shopping! I photographed all the goods for your viewing pleasure:

beans, OATMEAL <3, bread and canned soup. All things on sale!

Organic soymilk & vanilla soymilk, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese=all on sale. And buffalo chicken deli meat

Mushrooms, frozen veggies (for my shins, mostly), spinach, broc and tofu all the way in the back=all on sale!

Oranges, blood oranges and bananas

Apples galore! That bag was $1.99!
This should last me for about a week and a half. And I have to feed another person for half of that time. So glad to be restocked!
Tonight, we’re going out to get my favorite burritos ever for dinner and then going to the Vagina Monologues at our school. I’m excited! It really hurts to walk because of these damn shin splints but I hope that I can recover soon and get back to running! Argh, I should have been more careful.
How do you make sure you stay injury free?
And remember, my make your own cereal concoction giveaway end on Sunday at midnight, with a winner announcement on Monday!

Hi Olga,
I got pretty bad shin splints (in one leg) when I was training for my half-marathon. I pretty much made it a rule that I would not run 2 days in a row. I would use the elliptical, do yoga, take a rest day, etc … but too many days pounding the pavement (err, or treadmill) can definitely take its toll!!
How were the monologues? I was in our school’s show two weekends ago! It was the most empowering experience of my life (and my acting debut). I hope you liked them! Sorry about your shins!
Pamela,
The monologues were so incredible! I went last year too and I think this year was even better. Many of my friends were in it too! I hope that many women walked out of there feeling more confident and comfortable with their own bodies and sexuality. The ONLY monologue I will always have problem with is the “Reclaiming the C word” one. I don’t want to reclaim it. I don’t like it, it doesn’t really make me feel empowered! But the rest of it is fantastic. I’m so glad you got the chance to be a part of something so great
first of all, i LOVE your new blog! sorry i’ve been MIA for a while, but it looks seriously amazing!
i think the most important thing to staying injury free is to take rest days and allow your body to recover
hope you have a wonderful weekend <3
I try and take it easy and make sure I have good shoes.
I hate shin splints! A hot bath with Epsom salts and then I usually have hubs rub my shins. Just put some light pressure on them up and down along my shin makes them feel so much better.
Hummus with tuna? Brilliant!
All I can say is to stretch, ice and medicate well, and not go too crazy when you’re not feeling 100%. I haven’t been able to stay injury free or really follow this advice myself, but I like to pretend I always make healthy choices.
On sale groceries = best things ever! I love that tally at the bottom of the receipt that says how much I’ve saved. It makes me feel so thrifty and smart!
Those mini chocolate chips look so pretty on the oatmeal! I don’t know why exactly, but they are so darn cute!
Tuna melt. That’s something I have never tried yet have wanted to forEVER. Must remember it!
Groceries on sale = HECK YEAH!
Sorry to hear about the shin splits. Ugh. I hope you heal up well fast!
You and I both said “vagina” in our posts today. Well, I said “vajayjay” because I’m shy.
I had shin splints all through college playing basketball. I’ve tried ice baths, taping my shins, and Advil, but the thing that worked best for me was orthodic inserts for my shoes. Turns out, like Fred Flintstone, I have really flat feet.
Yabba Dabba Doo, its the weekend! Have fun for me!
i am never able to stay injury free the entire almost 10 years i’ve been running…it’s inevitable that i get hurt…boo! but i hope your shin splints get better! make sure to ice and heat and repeat!!!
aw, i’m sorry about the shin splints… i’ve never had an exercise-related injury and i don’t know how because i sure as hell don’t stretch or have good form or anything hahaha. and yaaayyy for wine!!
oo I hate shin splints. those sp fries look divine! i decided to do the giveaway, you should enter!

I can’t believe that bag of apples was so cheap
Nice purchases!! Have an awesome night
SWEET POTATOES!!! PB PUFFINS!!
Oh goodness, I’m terribly sorry about the shin splints!! To make sure I stay injury-free, I rely on my personal-trainer – he keeps me safe
Hang in there, girl!!
Yikes, sorry about the shin splints. The boyfriend gets them all the time, so he makes sure to stretch his calves REALLY well.
Love the lunch in the stacks. Oooh, college.
I am so sorry that you were diagnosed with shin splints. I was diagnosed with them a few years back and they are definitely not fun! I make sure that I am injury free by only taking a light run a few times a week and mostly doing non-impact type exercise like yoga.
I just started my own blog as well.
